Final Project: Phase 1

I would run through the entire process of the final assignment which is to develop and design an interactive product. This is an interesting process never done before in Four years of my NUS study life.

Phase 1: Discovering and Brainstorming

This is practically the most difficult phase. My team comprising of Nilar, WeiWei, Weiye and myself sat ourselves down at the arts forum and spent hours brainstorming for ideas. We have to think of which company to adopt or work for to design or develop an original product, a product that is new and not some simple upgrade of an existing product.

First we thought of the broad needs of every human being. Thoughts like “what do people need”, “what do people like”, etc ran through our minds. Everyone came out with ideas and everyone else shot them down. It was tough and we continued thinking and brainstorming.

Apart from the original product or service, we have to decide which company to work for (Either an existing firm or fictional firm) and who would be our potential end users. This seemed like an impossible task and everyone was getting tired. So we decided to call it a day and continue the brainstorming separately.

Finally, after discussing online, we met up again another day to bring all our ideas together. The decision was to work for Dell, the company that allows their customers to customize or personalize their desktops. Why don’t we do that for hand phones? People are able to find suitable hand phones which satisfies their requirement due to the fact that there are so many phones out there in the market. But are they really satisfied? Most are rather satisfied but definitely not completely. Hence, we decided to stick to this idea of working for Dell and developing on the customizable hand phone concept.
